Mercedes GP TV Commercial : With Compliments

For the 2011 Formula One season, Mercedes GP is releasing a TV commercial featuring the team's F1 drivers Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosberg and ends with a humorous appearance by Mika Hakkinen. The ad starts with both Nico and Schuey engaging in some one-upmanship between each other with wines. Mika later broke the two up by offering a can of Red Bull to each of them, an obvious reference to Red Bull Racing, the current leading the constructor's championship.

The TV commercial ends in German, "We are looking forward to the 2011 season. Racing is a state of mind. The best or not." The last bit was a pretty brave thing to say. I guess a 150 year old company with one of the longest racing histories, famous for their W196 "silver arrows" GP racers and the 300SL Gullwing Mille Miglia, counting names like Fangio and Moss as some of their star drivers, Mercedes doesn't really need to prove anything to anyone.

Mika Hakkinen remains this author's favorite F1 driver in recent time. I am not too interested in F1 these days. Watching a couple of energy drink makers and airline companies racing each other, and then having results overturned and decided in FIA courts, just isn't the same as watching Jordan or Tyrell or Williams or Mclaren, under Ron Dennis and Ferrari under Ross Brawn slugging it out, Senna showing everyone else how to drive in the rain, Schuey giving others a lesson on tire preservation AND still win the race. Schumacher once said that there is only one driver which he considers to be a real threat to him, and that he has the highest respect for him, and that driver was Mika Hakkinen.
