In the category of mindless entertainment where the brain can be put in "sleep mode," watching police chase videos is a popular online activity. So the media and politicians are all doing their thing again - a teenage boy driving without license and running away from the police was shot. Suddenly a juvenile kid is the darling innocent face of politicians looking to score points and the media.
It was unfortunate but then again, if the same thing happened in many other countries, the result is not going to be very much different either. Point is, unless you are criminal you have no reason not to stop for a routine check.
Before anyone assumes I am a fan boy of our men in blue, there had been two incidences where I was asked to pay a bribe. To which I refused and asked for a ticket, which oddly they were very reluctant to give. And don't forget those douche bag police car drivers who still don't know the function of that little stalk behind the steering wheel that turn amber flashes. So let's just say that I have more respect for the hardworking Indonesian worker who built my house and offered to solve some nagging water pressure issues, who is trying to make a living and fending himself from being abused or robbed by Rela members or even the police.
But the media and politicians, are all just as crooked. Funny how the media can paint a kid who was joy riding with no license in the wee hours as an "innocent child." My parents would have whooped the daylights out of my eye sockets if I did that, so that kid had some pretty big balls, and is certainly way over "common mischief."
Below is what happens in America if you run away from the cops.
Rules of engagement of police forces might differ from country to country. As expected, it would be more aggressive in areas where gun control laws are lax, like in the USA. And there is a high chance the criminal is heavily armed.
Remember that couple of years back an innocent Brazilian man was shot by the British police, simply because he was running away from the police, he was suspected of being a suicide bomber at a London Tube station.
Although generally the British are a far gentler lot than the Americans. Just watch the video below and note how they introduced and conduct themselves. Then again, that's also because you can't buy guns in the UK. Loved the T5 Volvos.
The rest of this 6 part series can be found in Youtube. In the subsequent episodes the differences in tactics used are very obvious.
