Toyota EFC to be unveiled as the Etios?

We have previously talked about Toyota's upcoming LCC (low cost car), known internally as the EFC (emerging market family car), which we know will be launched in January's New Delhi Auto Show. Today, some photos taken during setup were leaked out, apparently it is of the Toyota Etios. Early info suggests that the Etios will be unveiled in India as a Concept car but looking at it, this seems very close to the series production version. Available in both hatchback and sedan in major developing markets around the world.

Update - official pictures here.

Toyota is getting scary - a Low Cost Car. This after Wall Street Journal recently reported Toyota is pushing its suppliers to reduce material cost by 30% this year. This coming after that recent massive recall due to crappy floormats. Folks would be wise to consider Hyundai/Kia alternatives.

Renault re-named its low cost car as Logan; why Toyota still maintain its name?

It look smaller than Vios. Will it come to Msia? Vios start around RM70k, how much would this car cost? RM60k?? Then, who gonna buy P1 & P2 ??

I think there will be a lot of concerns - both by Toyota and Malaysian government if the EFC is sold as a Toyota.

But don't rule out introduction under P2 badge. After all, it is common knowledge that P2 intends / has plans for a small sedan model, but for various reasons, including political, have not been able to advance the project any further.

A Low Cost Car is actually one of those new growing segments that a lot of car makers want to get into. Even VW and Hyundai-Kia is actively working on their own version of LCC.

Ultra basic cars like these may seem absurb to most of us, but for many families in the developing world, anything with four wheels and a roof is a major improvement from the motorcycle that an entire family of 5 rides on at the moment.

Developed markets are already saturated. Developing markets and LCC are the next phase of growth.
