2009 BMW 7-series specs revealed.

Every once in a while, a car maker wows you with something as simple a tail lamp. The F01 generation 7 series is one such car. Look at the picture below, how can one not be wow-ed?!

So are they going to do the same for the F01 5er?

Click on the image above to visit BMW's official page for a detailed explanation on the 7 series design language, by the man himself, Adrian von Hooydonk. The page didn't load properly on my Opera, try IE.

Watch this video below on the exterior design work of the F01 7er.

Very few companies make it a point to leverage on their chief designer's influence and charisma as part of the car's marketing. BMW has Chris Bangle (which has since moved to oversee the entire BMW Group's design) and Adrian von Hooydownk (current BMW design chief). Audi has Walter da Silva.

Even Ferrari merely drops the name of the usual Italian design houses a few times in the press materials but that's about it. They make a bigger noise for their test drivers, especially Dario Benuzzi and Michael Schumacher.

My guess is it is not easy to manage a team when so much attention and spolight is on one particular person. A big no no for Japanese firms. You will never see Lexus designers on any of their advertorials. Others, I guess it's because not every designers can do "model on screen" as well as they can "model on CAD software."

More details have been revealed on the vehicle's specifications. You may download the US market catalog and data sheet via BMWblog.com. Equipment levels might differ from country to country but variations in specs are a lot less for super high-end German models than other regular "global cars."

Also, it is interesting to note that 7-series equipped with Night Vision are expected to spot a different front grille compared to the standard models.

Note the infra red transceiver unit for the Night Vision system. More info here.
